Rick Perry is clearly not a fan of the Federal Reserve, or its Chairman, Ben Bernanke.
At a campaign stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Tuesday, Perry – the governor of Texas and a 2012 Republican presidential candidate – was asked by a reporter what he would do if Bernanke engages in another round of money printing.
Perry responded by saying that “If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I don’t know what y’all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas…I mean, printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history, is almost treacherous, or treasonous, in my opinion.”
A video of Perry’s remarks is available here:

While one can make a case that Bernanke’s actions have been reckless, ill-advised, and/or hazardous to the economy and financial system, treasonous is a bit excessive.
Perhaps Mr. Perry should pay closer attention to the way in which other politicians – notably Ron Paul – criticize the Fed and Bernanke if he does not want to further damage his own credibility in the process.
